DETROIT, April 4, 2011 -- Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber announced two key hires. Ms. Bibiana “Bibie” Boerio, former managing director of Jaguar Cars and Chief Financial Officer of Ford Motor Credit Company, and Mr. Benjamin Erulkar, formerly with the United States Chamber of Commerce and United States Department of Commerce. Bibiana Boerio will serve as Special Advisor to the President, responsible for assisting the Chamber’s focus on becoming a more results oriented and tightly focused organization. Boerio will bring her 31 years of corporate finance and operations expertise at Ford Motor Company to the Chamber as well as help develop the MICHauto initiative, the Chamber’s new economic development program focused on the automotive industry. Boerio will maintain a part-time schedule with the Chamber, maintaining her residence in Washington, DC. Boerio earned her bachelor’s degree from Seton Hill University, graduate degree from Katz Graduate School of Business of the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit Class VII. Benjamin Erulkar will serve as the Chamber’s new Senior Vice President of Economic Development. This position is a critical hire for the Chamber as economic development is taking center stage at the Chamber. Erulkar’s portfolio will include the newly re-booted Detroit Regional Economic Partnership (business attraction initiative), TrankslinkeD (transportation, distribution and logistics initiative), Open Innovation (new business partnerships initiative), and MICHauto (auto industry economic development initiative). Erulkar recently served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce where he directed the Corporate Community Investment Program for ‘Fortune 500’ members of the U.S. Chamber’s Business Civic Leadership Center. Previously, he served as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development during the Bush Administration. In this role, Erulkar directed and coordinated all operations of the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). Erulkar holds degrees from Harvard University (AB), John Hopkins University (MA) and University of Pennsylvania Law School (JD). He and his family currently live in the Washington, DC area and will relocate to the Detroit region. “A key part of transforming the Chamber into a more nimble and more effective and focused organization is bringing in the best talent that compliments the already strong team in place,” said President and Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Regional Chamber Sandy K. Baruah. Baruah added, “The future of this region – and the Chamber – will be dependent upon an effective and aggressive economic development effort that encompasses the auto industry.
