Global Business Development

Global Business Development programs work to attract businesses from around the globe to Detroit, while also helping the businesses currently in the region increase their presence. Our staff travels globally to entice companies to either relocate or invest in doing business in the Detroit region. We also help businesses already located in the Detroit area "go global" and break into new markets around the world.

Geographic Focus

We predominantly focus on attracting businesses from around the U.S., Europe and Asia. We continue to prospect clients by working key trade shows in the U.S., Europe and Asia, as well as areas closer to our market, such as in Detroit and Chicago. These shows offer great opportunities to feed the Detroit pipeline with companies interested in the North American market, usually for the longer term. Several partnerships with business development organizations will support our focus to proactively target these companies.

Industry Focus

As our Economic Development programs contributes to the revitatlization of Detroit's economy, its business attraction efforts are currently focused on the following industries:

  • Transportation & Logistics
  • Alternative energy
  • Aerospace
  • Medical devices
  • Homeland security

These areas were defined in collaboration with our key public sector partners.
